HOW IT WORKS

The Post-Production Workflow Suite is a purpose-built, high-performance network and storage infrastructure designed for post-production facilities operating distributed editorial, color grading, and VFX workflows across multiple locations. Built around a 10GbE backbone with centralized high-capacity NAS storage, this suite enables geographically dispersed teams’ editors, colorists, and VFX artists working from different locations to collaborate on shared media assets in real time, with the same performance and security guarantees as a fully on-premises facility. 

Remote access is handled through encrypted VPN connectivity via a Peplink Balance 20X multi-WAN router, which serves as the primary routing and WAN gateway for the entire infrastructure. The Balance 20X supports site-to-site and remote VPN tunnels, multi-WAN load balancing, and traffic prioritization ensuring that latency-sensitive editorial and color grading sessions receive consistent bandwidth allocation regardless of concurrent usage across the facility. All remote users, whether connecting from the studio, home, or any remote location, access the post-production environment exclusively through encrypted VPN tunnels terminated at the Balance 20X, with no direct unprotected path to internal storage resources. 

The aggregation layer is built on a UniFi USW Pro Aggregation switch, providing an 8x 10G SFP+ backbone that interconnects all downstream switching and storage infrastructure at 10GbE speeds. This high-throughput, low-latency aggregation tier ensures that simultaneous read and write operations from multiple connected workstations do not contend for bandwidth at the distribution layer, maintaining consistent performance under full concurrent load. 

At the distribution layer, two UniFi USW Flex XG 10GbE access switches provide direct 10GbE connectivity to all connected workstations and production endpoints, while a QNAP TS-h2490FU 24-bay 10GbE NAS serves as the central shared storage platform for all post-production media. The QNAP TS-h2490FU provides massive shared storage capacity with native 10GbE connectivity, scalable RAID configurations, and enterprise-grade reliability enabling all connected workstations to access, read, and write large media files concurrently without throughput bottlenecks. The combination of 10GbE access switching and direct 10GbE NAS connectivity ensures that even uncompressed or minimally compressed 4K and higher-resolution workflows remain performant across all simultaneous users. 

Wireless coverage across the facility is provided by three UniFi U6 Pro Wi-Fi 6 access points, supporting wireless connectivity for production and collaboration devices throughout the facility. A UniFi UCG-Ultra serve as the centralized cloud management gateway, providing unified visibility and management across all network infrastructure, remote VPN sessions, and facility-wide connectivity from a single management plane.
