ComAp CM-RS232-485, Communication Module for monitoring via RS232 or RS485 line

When an existing controller needs to communicate with a computer or Modbus device, adding the required serial interfaces without replacing the main controller can simplify the installation. The ComAp CM-RS232-485 provides both RS232 and RS485 communication through a compact plug-in module, with the two interfaces operating on independent COM channels.

The ComAp CM-RS232-485 is an optional plug-in card designed to enable RS232 and RS485 communication for compatible InteliLite controllers. It provides a dual-port communication solution with RS232 connected to COM1 and RS485 connected to COM2, allowing the controller to communicate with computers, Modbus devices, and other supported equipment.

The module supports different communication distances depending on the interface. The maximal line distance is 10 m for RS232 and 1200 m for RS485, making RS485 suitable for longer communication links. The module also includes a 120 Ω terminator and 560 Ω balancing resistor for the RS485 interface.

RS232 communication is non-isolated, while the RS485 interface provides galvanic separation. This allows the RS485 side to provide electrically separated communication for connected equipment. The dual-port design also keeps RS232 and RS485 communication on independent COM channels.

The CM-RS232-485 operates from an 8-36 VDC power supply. Its power consumption varies with the supply voltage, from 40 mA at 8 VDC to 10 mA at 36 VDC. With dimensions of 73.8 x 50.3 x 15 and an operating temperature range of -30°C to +70°C, the compact module can be integrated into compatible controller installations without requiring a separate external communication unit.

The module is particularly useful for controller monitoring and Modbus communication where both short-distance RS232 and longer-distance RS485 connections are required. Its combination of dual independent COM channels, RS485 galvanic separation, long RS485 communication distance, and compact plug-in construction makes it suitable for expanding communication capabilities in compatible ComAp control systems.
