The Comtech SLM-5650C2 is a compact software defined satellite modem designed for demanding satellite communication networks. It supports a wide range of modulation, coding, spreading, and networking options, allowing the modem to be configured for different satellite link requirements. Its compact design makes it suitable for installations where space, connectivity, and flexible modem configuration are important.
The modem operates across a 950 to 2000 MHz frequency range with 1 kHz tuning steps and supports BPSK, QPSK, OQPSK, 8PSK, 8QAM, 16QAM, and 16APSK modulation. It provides Gigabit Ethernet data rates from 8 kbps to 155.52 Mbps, with symbol rates from 32 ksps to 64 Msps. DSSS spread spectrum is also supported with integer spreading factors from 2 to 512.
The SLM-5650C2 provides flexible forward error correction options, including Viterbi, Reed-Solomon, Trellis, Sequential, Turbo Product Code, and optional LDPC. Available FAST options can add higher data rates, additional modulation modes, encryption, secure network management, AUPC, spread spectrum, STANAG 4486, and other advanced capabilities. This flexibility makes the modem suitable for different satellite network architectures and operational requirements.
Built-in test capabilities provide fault and status reporting, BER performance monitoring, IF loopback, programmable test modes, and Fireberd emulation. Management is available through EIA-232 and 10/100Base-T Ethernet with HTTP, Telnet, and SNMP. The Gigabit Ethernet interface can operate as a switch, bridge, or routed connection for integration with terrestrial network equipment.
The SLM-5650C2 is designed for satellite communications applications requiring configurable modulation, data rates, coding, spread spectrum, and network management capabilities. The indoor unit operates from 12 VDC and uses conduction cooling, while the outdoor unit supports 11 to 33 VDC or 100 to 240 VAC and carries an IP67 rating. Its environmental specifications support deployment across a broad range of operating temperatures in indoor and outdoor satellite communication installations.
