When you need a compact embedded computer for edge processing, device communication, or connected industrial equipment, a conventional PC can be unnecessarily large and power-hungry. An ARM-based embedded computer is useful when the application needs efficient processing, flexible I/O, network connectivity, optional wireless communication, and a small enclosure that can be installed close to the equipment.

The Darveen AEC-324 is an ARM-based embedded computer built around the Rockchip RK3568 platform with a quad-core Cortex-A55 processor running at up to 2.0GHz. Its ARM architecture provides a compact computing platform for applications that require local processing without the size and power requirements of a conventional desktop computer. The system uses 2/4/8GB SDRAM LPDDR4X-3200MHz on board, with optional storage configurations from 16GB to 128GB.

The AEC-324 is designed to connect directly with industrial and peripheral equipment. It provides three USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0 port, while its serial interfaces include 2 x COM RS-485 (Optional) and 2 x COM RS-232. Two Gigabit Ethernet ports using Realtek GBE LAN chips provide 10/100/1000 Mbps networking, allowing the computer to communicate with networked equipment and systems. HDMI output supports resolutions up to 4096 x 2304@60Hz for local display applications.

The computer also provides several options for applications that require additional communication and I/O capabilities. A SIM slot supports compatible cellular configurations, while optional 4G/5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GNSS functions can add wireless connectivity and positioning. The system also provides GPIO, optional CAN interfaces, a TF card slot, and five SMA-type antenna holes, giving system integrators flexibility when building connected embedded solutions.

For expansion, the AEC-324 supports an optional Mini PCIe slot and an optional M.2 NGFF Key-B slot that supports PCIE 3.0/PCIE2.0/USB3.0/SATA configurations. The 12VDC input through a 3-pin terminal block and AT/ATX power mode allow integration into suitable embedded and industrial power systems. Its aluminum alloy enclosure and wall-mount design keep the system compact at 180 x 123 x 52 mm.

The AEC-324 supports Android 11 and Ubuntu, making it suitable for different embedded software environments. Its -20 to 60°C operating temperature range and 10% to 95% non-condensing relative humidity rating support deployment in demanding operating environments. With its ARM processing platform, multiple communication interfaces, optional wireless functions, CAN and GPIO expansion, and compact wall-mount enclosure, it can be used for edge computing, industrial communication, automation systems, IoT gateways, equipment monitoring, and other embedded applications.
