When a machine, vehicle, or outdoor control system needs a display that can also handle local computing and equipment communication, a basic monitor may not provide enough control interfaces. A rugged display computer is more useful when the operator needs a bright screen, touch control, configurable keys, video inputs, CAN communication, analog and digital I/O, and reliable operation across harsh temperature and vibration conditions.

The Enovation PowerView 780B is a 7-inch TFT LCD monitor with an integrated computing platform designed for demanding vehicle, machine, and outdoor applications. It uses a Renesas® R-Car M2 with an Arm® Cortex®-A15 dual-core processor running at 1.5 GHz and operates with the QNX® Realtime Operating System. The system includes 8 GB flash memory for storage, while the supplied RAM specification is 512 MB DDR3-SDRAM.

The 7-inch LVDS TFT LCD provides an 800 × 480 WVGA resolution with 1000 cd/m² brightness and a typical 600:1 contrast ratio. The high-brightness display is designed to remain visible in demanding outdoor conditions, while the anti-glare surface helps reduce reflections. The projected capacitive touch panel supports glove touch, allowing operators to interact with the system without relying only on physical controls.

The PowerView 780B also provides configurable operator controls through 10 tactile soft keys with white LED backlighting. Three NTSC/PAL video inputs allow a single video channel to be viewed at a time, which can be useful for connecting compatible cameras or video sources. The system also includes a real time clock with battery backup and multiple connector options for integrating the monitor into equipment.

Communication and I/O are important parts of the PowerView 780B. Two CAN 2.0B interfaces support ISO 11898-2, J1939, and proprietary messaging, while RS-485 supports Modbus master or slave communication. USB 2.0 provides host connectivity, and optional Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth expand the available communication options. The unit also provides analog, discrete digital, frequency, and switched outputs for connection with external equipment.

The monitor is designed for harsh operating environments, with an operating temperature range of -40˚C to +85˚C and IP66 and IP67 protection on the front and back for outdoor use. Its vibration rating of 7.86 Grms and shock rating of ±50G in 3 axes support demanding mobile and machine environments. With its combination of display, touch interface, communication ports, video inputs, and I/O, the PowerView 780B can be used for vehicle displays, mobile equipment, machinery, outdoor control systems, and operator interface applications.
