The Furuno FELCOM20 is an Inmarsat-C Mobile Earth Station designed for maritime satellite communication. It provides a shipboard terminal for communicating through the Inmarsat-C service and is intended for GMDSS applications where dependable satellite connectivity is required for maritime safety and communication operations.
The terminal operates across the specified Inmarsat-C transmitting and receiving frequency ranges and uses BPSK modulation for both transmission and reception. Its 600 and 1200 sps unfiltered BPSK transmit modes and 1200 sps unfiltered BPSK receive mode provide the communication characteristics required by the system.
The FELCOM20 is designed as a complete shipboard system rather than a standalone communication box. The standard equipment configuration includes the IC-120 antenna unit, IC-220 terminal unit, IC-318 junction box, keyboard, and installation materials. An IC-307 SSAS Alert Unit is included in the standard configuration only for the SSAS specification.
The system is designed to operate across a broad range of shipboard environmental conditions. The antenna unit supports temperatures from -35 °C to +55 °C, while the shipboard equipment is specified for -15 °C to +55 °C. The system also supports 95% relative humidity at 40°C, helping it operate in demanding maritime environments.
With a 12-24 VDC power supply, specified receiving performance of -23 dB/K or higher at 5° elevation, and transmit EIRP of 12-16 dBW at 5° elevation, the FELCOM20 provides a purpose-built satellite communication platform for maritime operations. Its dedicated antenna, terminal, junction box, and optional SSAS equipment support integration into shipboard GMDSS communication systems.
