When surveillance is required in areas where combustible gases, vapors, dust, or other hazardous conditions may be present, a standard security camera may not provide the protection required for the installation. The Hikvision DS-2XE6222F-IS(8mm)(D) is a fixed bullet camera designed for explosion-protected environments. Its 316L stainless steel construction, ATEX and IECEx explosion protection, and IP68 and IK08 protection allow it to support video surveillance in demanding industrial locations.

The camera uses a 1/2.8" progressive scan CMOS sensor and provides 1920 × 1080 resolution for monitoring people, vehicles, equipment, and activity within the scene. Its 8 mm fixed focal lens provides a 39° horizontal field of view, making it suitable when a more focused viewing area is required rather than a very wide scene. The camera also provides DORI distances of 110.3 m for detection, 43.8 m for observation, 22.1 m for recognition, and 11 m for identification.

For difficult lighting conditions, the camera combines 120 dB WDR with an IR cut filter and IR illumination. WDR helps preserve useful image information when bright and dark areas are present in the same scene, while the integrated 850 nm IR illuminator provides up to 30 m of supplementary light. With 0 Lux with IR, the camera can continue producing monochrome surveillance images in environments where there is no visible light. Smart Supplement Light helps manage the additional illumination for nighttime monitoring.

The camera also provides functions that help operators monitor activity without relying entirely on continuous manual observation. Motion detection and video tampering alarms can identify basic changes in the scene, while line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exiting detection can be used to monitor defined areas. ROI, face dynamic tracking and target cropping provide additional ways to focus video resources on important areas or subjects.

For integration with surveillance systems, the camera supports H.265, H.264, H.265+, H.264+ and MJPEG depending on the stream, with three available streams and video bit rates from 32 Kbps to 16 Mbps. It supports both PoE and 100 VAC to 240 VAC power options and includes alarm input and output. The 316L stainless steel enclosure is designed for demanding environments, while IP68 protection, IK08 impact protection, anti-corrosion treatment, and operation from -30 °C to +60 °C make the camera suitable for industrial and hazardous-area surveillance applications.
