The Hirschmann BRS40-12TX-EEC is a managed industrial switch designed for DIN-rail installations where Gigabit Ethernet connectivity is required. It provides 12 Gigabit Ethernet ports, with all ports supporting 10/100/1000BASE-TX through RJ45 connections. This allows industrial controllers, automation equipment, HMIs, servers, and other network devices to communicate over a single compact switching platform.

Its all-Gigabit port configuration is useful for networks where higher bandwidth is required than traditional 10/100 Mbps industrial switches can provide. The switch supports twisted-pair cable lengths from 0 to 100 m, while line and star topologies can be used for network deployment. This gives system designers flexibility when connecting devices across control cabinets, production areas, and industrial equipment.

The BRS40-12TX-EEC is also designed with practical management and service interfaces. A USB-C interface is provided for local management and device replacement, while a digital input and signaling contact interface can be integrated into the installation. These interfaces provide additional options for commissioning, maintenance, and monitoring of the network equipment without requiring a separate external device.

For industrial installations, the power arrangement supports two 12 VDC to 24 VDC operating inputs. The fanless design eliminates the need for an internal cooling fan, helping keep the compact switch suitable for enclosed control cabinets. With a power consumption of 11 W, it can be integrated into systems where cabinet power and thermal considerations are important.

The compact PC-ABS housing measures 73 mm x 138 mm x 115 mm and supports DIN-rail mounting. Its -40°C to +70°C operating temperature range allows it to work across demanding industrial environments, while IP30 protection, vibration resistance according to IEC 60068-2-6, and shock resistance according to IEC 60068-2-27 support installation in machinery and industrial control environments.
