For security areas where normal cameras can struggle with darkness, changing light, or limited visibility, a thermal camera can provide another way to observe activity by detecting heat rather than relying on visible light. The Pelco Sarix Thermal Enhanced 4 is designed for this type of monitoring, combining thermal imaging, network video, detection features, and a compact outdoor-ready housing.

The Pelco Sarix Thermal Enhanced 4 uses a 320 x 256 uncooled VOx microbolometer to capture thermal information in the 8μm to 14μm spectral range. Thermal imaging works by detecting infrared energy from objects and presenting differences in heat as an image, allowing operators to identify people, vehicles, and other objects based on their thermal signatures. This makes the camera useful for surveillance where thermal information can provide visibility that is different from conventional visible-light video.

The 4.3 mm F1.0 lens provides a 50.0° x 40.0° horizontal and vertical field of view, making the camera suitable for monitoring a relatively broad area from a fixed position. It supports imaging rates up to 30 fps on applicable models and provides NETD ≤50 mK, with NETD ≤40 mK on 30 fps models when the Frame Averager feature is enabled. Multiple thermal palettes, including White Hot, Black Hot, Rainbow, IronBow, Lava, and Hottest, give operators different ways to interpret temperature differences in the scene.

The camera also includes functions that support continuous security monitoring. Pixel and classified-object motion detection can help identify activity, while tamper detection provides an alert when the camera's condition is disturbed. Up to 64 privacy zones can be configured for areas that should not be monitored. Multi-stream H.264 and H.265, Motion JPEG, Pelco Smart Compression, and idle scene mode help manage video transmission and network bandwidth when the camera is integrated into a larger surveillance system.

For remote security systems, the camera provides 100BASE-TX networking through an RJ-45 connector and supports ONVIF Profiles S, T, G, and M. USB 2.0, microSD storage, alarm input and output, and line-level audio input and output provide additional integration options. Its aluminum body, polycarbonate sunshield, wide adjustment range, and operating temperature from -40°C to +65°C make it suitable for outdoor surveillance installations where the camera needs to remain operational across changing environmental conditions. The specified classified-object detection range reaches 68 m for humans and 80 m for vehicles.
