The IBM TS2900 Tape Autoloader can be used in a rack system or on a desktop next to a server in an office environment. The autoloader’s convenient and easy-to-use features help reduce the workload of IT personnel and centralize datacenter backups. The solution is also designed to support the encryption of sensitive user data in combination with half-height LTO Ultrium 7, 8 and 9 technology. Offering a 6 Gbps SAS interface on LTO Ultrium 7 and 8 or a 12 Gbps SAS interface on LTO Ultrium 9, the IBM TS2900 Tape Autoloader is compatible with IBM Power® Systems, Intel and other open-system server platforms.

The IBM TS2900 Tape Autoloader has capacity for nine data slots—a total storage capacity of 405 TB with 2.5:1 compression when using LTO Ultrium 9 cartridges. It also has a single input/output (I/O) station designed to provide undisturbed library operation when extracting or inserting data cartridges. The IBM TS2900 Tape Autoloader uses one half-height LTO Ultrium drive for generations 7, 8 or 9 and is shipped as a rack-mounted unit with an optional desktop conversion kit.

Half-height LTO Ultrium 9 Tape Drives are designed to read and write data at a transfer rate of up to 300 Mbps and can store up to 18 TB on a single cartridge—or 45 TB with 2.5:1 compression. LTO Ultrium 9 Tape Drives can also read and write data to LTO Ultrium 8 data cartridges, further supporting current investments in LTO Ultrium resources
